How it's worked out

Everything below is for the employer picked on the Settings tab. Rates step on the agreement's own dates and the calculator uses the column in force for the week you're looking at. Hours are your hours on site, breaks included, the way the agreement's overtime rules count them.

  • Filling in as foreperson: set that day's role under the date. Each day's hours are paid at that day's rate; overtime follows the same day rules.
  • Holidays are built in for your agreement and moved to the day they're observed. Untick Stat to switch one off, or tick it for a day your job observes instead.
  • CPP and EI (2026): CPP 5.95% after a $67.31 weekly exemption until $4,230.45 for the year, then the second CPP at 4% on earnings between $74,600 and $85,000. EI 1.63% until $1,123.07. Quebec: QPP 6.3% to $4,479.30, EI 1.30% to $895.70, QPIP 0.43% to $442.90. The log counts these up week by week, separately for each employer.
  • Income tax uses the 2026 federal and provincial payroll formulas (CRA T4127, July 2026 edition) the way payroll does: the week's pay times 52, union dues taken off first, with each province's extras (BC tax reduction, Ontario surtax and health premium, Quebec abatement). Real cheques usually land within a few dollars. Quebec provincial tax is an approximation of the Revenu Québec formula.
  • Living-out allowance and travel are reimbursements. They're normally tax-free when you file a TD4 with your employer, and they don't get vacation or holiday pay. Tick "This employer pays living-out" on the Settings tab and new days you log will have LOA on.

Not included: heavy-equipment (non-crane) rates and Alberta crane rental (ACOA) rates; send us your agreement (Settings tab). This is a crane operator app: the dozer, grader, loader, excavator, roller and paver classes, mechanics and welders, and Quebec's heavy-equipment and shovel operators aren't offered. The Alberta Crane Owners Association agreement 2025–2029 (about 1,200 operators) publishes only its settlement percentages, not the wage schedule. Also not public: Saskatchewan Local 870 (the CLRS copies are redacted), Newfoundland and Labrador Local 904 (the wage appendix is blank), New Brunswick Local 946 and PEI Local 942 (only expired texts), the Nova Scotia mainland crane and earth-mover agreements (expired April 30 2026, no renewal posted), BC Heavy Construction 2026–2029, the Manitoba crane rental division, the PLCAC pipeline and the roadbuilding agreements, and the territories. Not modelled: travel time and mileage (enter them on the Week tab), call-outs and show-up pay, the 10-and-4 and other rotations outside the GPMA blended rate, two premiums at once on the same crane, first-aid and underground premiums, Quebec isolated sites (B-1) and the civil-engineering (GCV) and residential sectors, and living-out or travel amounts that step mid-agreement (change the amount in Settings on the date). No local publishes its monthly dues: enter them from your stub. Employer pension, health and training contributions aren't on your cheque; the pension part is shown as a memo line under the cheque and on the Year tab.

Yours missing? Send it from the Settings tab (Send us your agreement). If the app doesn't have it yet, you get a free year when it's added.

Made by a union worker, for union workers. Independent tool. Not affiliated with any union: not made by or affiliated with the International Union of Operating Engineers or any of its locals, FTQ-Construction or any other union or council, any employer bargaining association (CLR Alberta, the Alberta Crane Owners Association, CLR-BC, the Ontario operating engineers' employer bargaining agency, CLRAM, NSCLRA, the ACQ and others), the CCQ, the National Maintenance Council, any crane rental company or any contractor. This is an estimate, not payroll advice. Your stub and your steward have the final word.

Privacy

Your hours, pay, employers and settings stay on this phone. There's no account and no sign-in, and we never see your log.

What we do receive:

  • When you open the app: an anonymous count. It includes a random number your phone makes up, the phone type, your province, which poster, QR code, key card or link brought you here (for a key card, the last six characters of its key; for a friend's share link, their share code), whether it was opened inside Facebook's or Instagram's browser, and whether the page was on screen. It doesn't include your name or email.
  • When you pass the app on: the Share and Copy link buttons and the QR code under Get it on your phone carry a share code that belongs to your phone. It lets us count how many people arrive by your link and install the app, and it gives you a free month for every friend who buys a licence through it, up to a year. The code is worked out from a private half that stays on your phone; once a day the app sends that private half to ask how many of your friends have bought. It's a different number from the usage count above, and it doesn't tell us who you are.
  • If you buy a key: your email, passed to us by Stripe and kept with your key so we can find it if you lose it. Stripe handles your card, and we never see the number.
  • When you turn on a key: your phone's random number, so one key works on up to three phones.
  • If you send an agreement: the files, the local and agreement you typed, your email if you give it, and your phone's share code so a free year can reach it. The files are only used to add the agreement to the app, and are deleted within 90 days.
  • If you use the feedback box: your message, your email if you give it, the agreement, job class and province you had selected, your phone's browser type, and the same random number as the usage count.

We don't sell or share any of it, and there are no ads or tracking scripts. The site is hosted by Cloudflare and payments go through Stripe. They see what any web host or card processor sees.

To see or delete what we hold about you, send a note through the feedback box with your key or email.
